Checking Third Party Motor Details

The Motor Insurance Database (MID) have launched a new free service to help accident victims check insurance at the roadside on their mobile phone.

With your drivers out on the road most of the working day, the occasional incident is almost inevitable. It is therefore vital that you provide them with the tools they require to protect themselves and the business if a non-fault collision occurs. askMID roadside allows your drivers who have been in a collision to check the insurance details of any third parties involved. Using just the vehicle registration, users will be sent the insurer name and contact details connected to the vehicle. Ensuring your drivers leave the scene with accurate third parties details will help process your claim with greater efficiency.

Nick Chambers explains “When a delay in the processing of a claim occurs, costs often inflate, having a detrimental effect on the policy holder’s claims history. Claims records are a key influencer insurers use in the rating of a premium and need to be kept as low as possible to prevent unfavourable fluctuations.  To help manage this, businesses should be looking to services like askMID roadside to capture as much data as possible as early as possible, enabling a smoother and faster claims process.”

The askMID roadside feature can be accessed at www.askmid.com

What if the third party doesn’t have insurance?

The MID estimates there are roughly 1.2 million uninsured drivers on the UK roads (2013). If your askMID search reveals the third party is uninsured you will still have the option to claim through the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB). To protect conscientious drivers from losing out through incidents with uninsured drivers (where the uninsured is at fault), the Government has an arrangement with the MIB to compensate the insured driver for some or all of the incurred costs.
